Our virgin Carniolan queens are bred here in the UK from trusted Slovenian Carniolan stock, ensuring strong genetics and suitability for local conditions. Virgin queens are unmated, young queens that have not yet begun laying eggs. Beekeepers often purchase virgins when they want their queens to mate naturally with local drones, introduce new bloodlines into their apiary, or requeen colonies at a lower cost. This approach allows for greater control over colony genetics while ensuring adaptability to the local environment.

Carniolan bees are known for their gentle nature, rapid spring build-up, and ability to thrive in cooler, cloudier weather. They are efficient with food stores, overwinter well in smaller clusters, and forage effectively even in less-than-ideal conditions. By starting with a virgin queen, you combine these excellent traits with the added flexibility of local mating.
